In its fifth year, the 5000m2 expo hosted over 200 engineering companies who displayed their latest products, developments and technological innovations across zones including Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing, Surfaces and Finishes, Tools and Equipment, Digital Construction, Concrete and Construction.
Damelin engineering lecturers, Kudzai Mutisi, Honour Mupanganyama and William Mutasa accompanied the students on the trip. The students were in awe of the experience as they got to meet and establish professional connections with engineering companies including qualified buyers and sellers for the entire building chain in the country.
The expo held various technical workshops that gave the students an opportunity to see the latest developments in the engineering fraternity. They also got free hands-on technical training for professional development and built skills to which they will be able to apply to the theory that they have learnt at the campus.
Damelin student Sabelo Radebe who attended the event said, “I was very excited to experience the practical aspects of engineering and to establish professional connections. I am thankful to my lecturers for giving us this great opportunity.”
Academic Manager for Damelin Benoni, Tendai Nyangari said that she saw this event as a wonderful and motivational platform for the students. “The expo provided students with a hands-on approach to a career in construction. I was glad that they were able to apply their theoretical knowledge to the practical experiences learnt at the exhibition. The students returned motivated and excited, awaiting another educational adventure.”
The students also received goodie bags with snacks and stationery from the exhibitors.
Damelin Benoni looks forward to further informative events such as these as it assists in providing students with a practical outlook to their studies.
