The festival, which started in the year 2000, has grown exponentially over the years attracting over one thousand participants together with 350 principals, staff members, coaches, umpires and parents.
The festival provides a platform for young women in Grade 11 and 12 to come together and showcase their talents in the cultural and sporting arena. The cultural codes include: Art, Debating, Drama, Public Speaking and Vocal Ensemble. The sporting codes include: Chess, Hockey, Netball, Tennis, Touch Rugby and Squash.
Damelin will sponsor the photography, prizes and various uniform accessories for the girls.
COO of Damelin, Kapil Jaggeth, said, “We are honoured to be involved in such a significant gathering and to see some of the young women of South Africa unite in culture and sport.”
Erica Hayes-Hill, Principal of Durban Girls’ High School, said, “The festival is about sharing ideas, skills and developing in specific areas. We hope that these young women will leave Durban having developed a sense of camaraderie and having added more skills to their repertoires.”
The exciting opening ceremony will begin in the evening on 27 April with a braai and live entertainment for all girls to enjoy and a welcome reception function for all staff, coaches and principals. The four-day programme will be action-packed for the girls and spectators, ending off with the closing awards ceremony on 30 April. Each girl will receive a photograph from Damelin as a memorabilia of their participation in Durban.
