Lerato May, the winner of the R75,000 Damelin Bloemfontein bursary, is seen together with the finalists at the live draw with Moteo FM
The bursary announcement was held on the vibrant campus grounds, where Lerato May was declared the proud winner. The competition, which ran for a month received hundreds of entrants, all looking to further their career with Damelin.
Unable to hold back her joy as she shed tears of happiness, the twenty-one-year-old said that this opportunity arrived at the perfect time.
"Firstly I thank God and Damelin for this life-changing opportunity. I have made several attempts in a bid to secure bursaries by submitting a number of applications to various institutions, but to no avail. I grew up in a family where no one has reached tertiary level education. I see this as the perfect chance for me to make a difference. With this opportunity from Damelin I aim to make my parents proud, serve as an admirable role model to my siblings and most importantly pursue my studies in Human Resource Management," said the Chris Hani resident.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, well-known community leaders, school principals and a number of residents were in attendance, joining in the local festivities and celebrating education with an exciting twist. Adding to the excitement, Damelin Bloemfontein's talented sound technology students entertained the crowd with soulful music throughout the afternoon.
Branch Assistant Manager for Damelin Bloemfontein, Simon Ngubane, said, "Damelin Bloemfontein has always had the best interests of our community at heart. This bursary will help Lerato achieve an accredited qualification and improve her chances of securing a good job. Damelin Bloemfontein, which is one of 17 Damelin campuses, is proud to make Lerato's dream a reality."
The team at Damelin Bloemfontein extends their well wishes to Lerato as she embarks on her long-awaited educational journey.
