GTV launches G-UP prepaid subscription scratch cards

NAIROBI: GTV unveiled on Tuesday, 14 October 2008 a scratch card that enables its customers to pay their monthly subscriptions by loading their recharge number on the card.

The G-UP scratch card is meant to make payment of monthly subscriptions easier and convenient for GTV subscribers.

The card comes in three denominations, catering for the three GTV packages - G Home, G Choice and G Plus. The cards are in KES2,750 for G Plus which is the premium bouquet, KES1,390 for G Choice and KES790 for G Home.

The customer purchases a scratch card equivalent to the monthly subscription for the package they subscribe to and scratch the foil sealed area to reveal the recharge number.

The customer then creates an SMS on his/her phone and types ‘PAID' followed by a space, the decoder smart card number (found in the centre of the smart card without any leading zeros) followed by a space, then types their GTV account number, space, followed by the 12 digit recharge number found under the foil on the scratch card.

The customer then needs to send this SMS to 0710 608642 and the account will be recharged instantly.

“We listened to our customer's feedback for the need to offer accessible payment options to suit our customers' busy schedules,” GTV Kenya general manager, Charles Waituika said.

“This is a major milestone in the history of Pay TV in Africa. GTV customers will no longer have to queue to pay for their subscription. All you need to do is get yourself a G-UP scratch card from your nearest participating outlet or GTV dealer."

Waituika said, “The G-UP card is already in the market and GTV dealers are already reporting a positive response from customers. The cards, he added, will be available in all dealer and partner shops, participating outlets and retail stores across the country.”
