Big Cat Diary goes live
Now thanks to technology, BBC Wild Cat Diary viewers can view live broadcasts directly from the Maasai Mara. This was made possible by telecommunication company Zain Kenya after it installed a mini-repeater around Olkukurruk and Aitong areas in the world famous Maasai Mara.
The technology enables viewers of Big Cat Diary broadcast by BBC2 to follow Africa's biggest predators and their prey 24 hours a day. The Big Cat Diary crew started using the technology to send video clips to the BBC Wild Cat Diary website last month. Viewers are enjoying live webcams, videos and field reports of live television beamed directly from the heart of Kenya's Maasai Mara game reserve.
The drama of the big cats, their predators and prey, went online on www.bbc.co.uk/bigcat starting 22 September, 2008. More live and recorded features will roll out over the weeks before the series airs on TV.
Zain is one of the emerging market players in the field of telecommunications in Kenya and aims to be one of the top ten mobile operators in the world by 2011. The Zain brand is wholly owned by Mobile Telecommunications Company KSC which is listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange.
