Private sector discusses AVU curriculum for Computer ScienceLeading private sector organisations met late last week at a breakfast meeting to discuss the African Virtual University curriculum for the Bachelor of Applied Computer Science program. ![]() Delegates at the breakfast meeting Dr. Bakary Diallo, the Rector of the African Virtual University, said: "We have designed an online Applied Computer Science Program to address the continental need for high-skilled computer scientists. The number of computer scientist graduating out of the on-campus programs is not enough to meet the current growth of the ICT sector." "We want to involve the private sector to ensure the curriculum responds to the needs of Africa's growing ITC sector," Dr. Diallo said. The workshop was convened as a result of the Policy Harmonization and Curriculum Conceptualization workshop which was held in Nairobi in July 2012. During that workshop, Vice Chancellors from 26 African Universities advised the AVU to create an Applied Computer Science Program for Open Distance and eLearning.
