"Initially this brought confusion to those who were used to applying and registering, by the end of January, for studies in the same year. The University is, rightfully so, asking learners to plan for their future and not leave such an important aspect of their lives to the last minute," says Evy Panagopoulos, head of UNISA studies at the Bedfordview Boston City Campus & Business College - an official Unisa licensee.
Students should acquaint themselves with university and tertiary application and registration deadlines - as many could end up disappointed.
Unisa has two application and two registration deadlines annually, as it accepts students per semester. "Students wishing to take advantage of the mid-year intake for Unisa studies must apply between 26 March and 26 April," says Panagopoulos. "They also need to then register, if their application is successful, between 18 June and 13 July. If these deadlines are not met, they will have to wait until 2013 to study. However the 2013 application deadlines must be adhered to, and this means application by approximately 20 September 2012!
Boston has a careers and counselling unit that will assist with career decisions, as well as planning of degrees and modules. Furthermore, the counsellors are able to guide learners through the registration and application periods.
"This is a free service we offer to the community. Not only will we assist them with their Unisa application, but we can help students in making an informed career choice without any obligation," she says.
