ICASA establishes regulatory framework review process
The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has introduced a process to review the community broadcasting governing framework of the broadcasting sector, which is aimed at addressing concerns that the community broadcasting sector faces in terms of its regulatory and operational environment.
Reviews that will be undertaken include, streamlined community broadcasting related regulations, community broadcasting licensing framework reviews and community broadcasting sector operational guidelines.
The review process began with the publication of a discussion document on the Review of the Community Broadcasting Regulatory Framework on 3 March 2017. Submissions are due on 10 May 2017 for solicited written representations from interested parties and stakeholders.
