    2019 Feather Awards nominees announced

The 2019 Feather Awards nominations were announced at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.

This year's nominees include sportspeople such as Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk; social media personalities such as Dr Sindi van Zyl; celebrities like Somizi, Bonnie Mbuli and Rachel Kolisi; musicians such as Busiswa; parents to LGBTIQ+ luminaries such as Mally Simelane; and LGBTIQ+ corporate initiatives such as Nike's Be True initiative.

The Feather Awards also give an important nod to media bodies, LGBTIQ+ student movements and role models who have done the crucial work in this regard - amongst these nominees are online platform Inkanyiso.org, which is up for the Media of the Year award; Wits Activate, which has been nominated for Best LGBTIQ+ Student Movement; and recently retired Justice Edwin Cameron, who will be honoured with the Feather of the Year Award; and human rights activist Namibian Linda RM Baumann, who'll be receiving the African Feather of the Year accolade.
