bidorbuy launches in Kenya
Jaco Jonker, CEO of bidorbuy, says that the launch of bidorbuy Kenya is part of the company's strategic initiatives to further its growth on the African continent: "We already have a large number of users from Africa trading on our South African platform, so this move is a logical step for the company to facilitate the trade of goods between buyers and sellers within the same country, in local currency," says Jonker.
Established in 1999, bidorbuy.co.za generates more than 30 million monthly page views and receives over one million unique visitors each month. With more than 530,000 registered users and over 70,000 sellers, the turnover produced on the South African online marketplace exceeds R30 million per month.
Modelled on SA version
"Our Kenyan bidorbuy service is modelled on our South African online marketplace, providing a secure platform for people to buy and sell goods online," continues Jonker. As with the South African service, the Kenyan website users may buy or sell immediately using the 'buy now' option or to bid for products using the auction format.
According to Jonker, the Kenyan bidorbuy operation allows users to trade in Kenyan shillings. The range of products on offer varies, from computers, mobile phones, photography and other electronic products to clothing, jewellery and even baby products.
"As a leader in e-commerce in South Africa, we are hoping that with the launch of bidorbuy Kenya we are doing our bit to grow the uptake of online shopping in the East African country," concludes Jonker.
