Spend merrily, pay the price in January
On December 24, last year, Joseph Wambua had Sh40,000, as his salary. He was paid early because of Christmas festivities.
With a budget, he knew he had to save at least half of the money because he had to wait for 50 days — end of January — before the next salary.
"But I did not save anything. I remember buying clothes for my two daughters, paid rent for January and bought food. I remained with about Sh20,000," he says.
Come January, Wambua was in debt of about Sh3,000 that he borrowed from a friend.
