    Kenyan marketing efforts recognised

    The Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK) has again recognised companies and individuals who have made a difference in the field of marketing. A special award - Najivunia kuwa mkenya, a Swahili phrase meaning "I am proud to be Kenyan," was given to individuals who brought fame and fortune to Kenya.

    Zain won the Best Product Launch Award as well as the Best Corporate Launch Brand Award. Best Promotion Campaign Awards went to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company Malipo, Tusker Project Fame and Safaricom Kwachua campaigns and Best Advertising Campaign Awards - Zain Vuka tariff, Safaricom SMS and Royco Onja. The best innovation campaigns that had an impact were Safaricom's MPesa, Nakumatt 24-hour shopping and Pesa Point ATMs.

    The Najivunia Kuwa Mkenya and Best Personal Branding Effort Awards went to US President-elect Barack Obama for being the first African president of the US. Others included Pamela Jelimo recognised for being the first Kenyan woman to win an Olympic gold medal and also the first Kenyan to win the Golden League Jackpot and, Samuel Kamau Wanjiru for winning Kenya's first marathon gold at the 2008 Olympics.

    The Best Personal Branding Effort Awards went to Kenya's Prime Minister Raila Odinga, acting Minister of Finance John Njoroge Michuki and Jua Kali, a musician. Thiagarajan Ramamurthy of Nakumatt retail outlets was recognised for the role he played in the dynamic growth of Nakumatt.
